Mistakes were made, and lessons have been learned.
We will not dwell on who may or may not have authorized the events in
question, nor mention the regrettable miscommunications that occurred.
If anyone was offended by what transpired, we regret that they feel that
way.

Thesis of failureThe agentless passive as getaway car, apophasis that mentions what it refuses to discuss, euphemism laid over every noun that could hurt, and a conditional that converts the injured into hypotheses. This is rhetoric's dark mirror — every device competent, every purpose corrupt.

OccasionSomething has gone publicly wrong, and a statement must appear to accept responsibility while accepting none.
PersonaThe first-person plural of no one; contrition's grammar with contrition extracted.

1The Autopsy

This passage is why rhetoric requires an ethics. Nothing here is incompetent — the passive is correctly formed, the apophasis is textbook, the parallelism scans. Every device functions; every device is aimed away from the truth. The tell is where the actors appear: nowhere near the wrong ("mistakes were made"), and right beside the virtue ("lessons have been learned" — by us). Grammar that places its actors this consistently is not confused. It is drafted.

2The Repair

There is only one: "We did it. We were wrong. Here is what changes, and here is the date by which it changes." Active voice, named agent, falsifiable promise. A committee cannot write it, which is the point.
